Dubai Chamber has opened a new office in Sao Paulo, Brazil. What led to the opening of this office and what do you hope to achieve going forward?

HAMAD BUAMIM: During 2014, His Highness Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister, the Ruler of Dubai, visited a number of countries in Latin America, including Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, and Chile.

Latin America is blessed with huge mineral and agricultural resources backed by an impressive industrial growth. The UAE can serve as Latin America's gate to Central and Eastern part of the globe. There are scores of opportunities we can build on with our partners in Latin America.

This is where Dubai Chamber of Commerce is targeting to focus more at looking into the opportunities that can enable and build the relationship from a business and trade perspective between Dubai and United Arab Emirates at one side, and Latin America from the other side.

We'll be able to establish a platform, to be able to discuss the potential opportunities to strengthen the relationship further between both of the regions.

The openness to Latin American markets falls in line with the UAE’s keenness to strengthen its relations in the fields of trade, economy, and investment with Latin American countries.

What activities is the Dubai Chamber undertaking to strengthen the bilateral economic relationship between Dubai (and the UAE) and Latin America?

HAMAD BUAMIM: One thing we are doing is we are conducting a study to look at the different countries in Latin America, and what they can offer to us.

So we are conducting a study; we would like to understand what synergies we can establish between both businesses in Dubai. We know Dubai imports from different parts of the world. We know a lot of things can be imported from countries in Latin America, such as agriculture, food, building materials, and so on.

As a Chamber, we are looking into ways to boost the trade and promote the ties between both sides and look at them from an opportunities point of view.

I would say these are some of our activities we are putting together to be able to strengthen the relationship between our regions and Latin America.
